I was able to study under Mike Wildenstein at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine during their four month Farrier program that included blacksmith and farrier techniques.
These are the 16 different horse shoes that I was required to perfect,
All were cut from Straight steel or aluminum stock and forged.
**Forge welding was used for these shoes, no arch welding was allowed!

Front Fuller:
Egg Bar: A form of bar shoe which resembles the letter "O", with
a curved, rather than straight bar connecting the heels of the
horseshoe. Eggbars are used to extend posterior support well behind
the buttresses of the heels of the hoof.
Square Hind with quarter clips and Trailer. Trailer is an extra long heel on a horseshoe which is usually turned
45° away from the center line of the hoof and the line of flight.
Square Hind with Jumping Calks and quarter clips. Jumping Calks are used to prevent lateral slippage and allow forward sliding. Calks are brazed on with copper.
Hind Draft Shoe with toe clip and heel calks
Toe Clip on Hind Draft shoe
Mule Shoe: Heel Calks for traction.
Sliding Plate: used for cutting horses. Very slippery! Allows horse to move quickly side-to-side.
Front Stamped
Front Saddlebred Toe-Weight with Rocker Toe: Toe is much heaver then heels. Heels are tapered to reduce their weight.
Aluminum Bar Shoe
Front Fuller Bar with Rockered Toe: Rockering the toe relieves breakover and reduces stress.
Heart Bar: supports frog
Hind Standardbred Whip Across Bar Shoe: Beveled right side fits under hoof wall. Heel calk used for traction and prevents slipping. Heel calks provide braking traction as the hoof
lands, but no grip at breakover. This shoe is used for Standardbred race horses.
Hind Patten Rest Shoe: A form of bar shoe that acts as an extreme wedge shoe. Used for tendon injury recovery.
Aluminum Front Stamped
Front Swedged Training Plate: A very lightweight, usually steel horseshoe used on race horses
between races. Also, used on some young show horses. The swedged, on the right heel, is used for traction. Also, has Calk, on left heel, for increase
traction, alter movement, or adjust stance.
